Fantastic Einstein Ceramic Tile Portrait

Here you have a fantastic Einstein portrait on a 15cm x 15cm Spanish tile.

Hand painted and fired in an oven this amazing portrait shows an electrified Einstein.

With an 18th century enameled base the tile is painted with Spanish Engobe colors and fired in an oven. The effect of the engobe over eighteenth century style base gives it a special texture and gloss.

Picking Einstein for a portrait was something I always wanted to do.

His mind like and electric field exploding into the fire represented by his hair. Electrifying all around him his ideas and perception changed the world forever. While some may fault him for his work on weapons of mass destruction the ideas he brought also had the ability to help the world power itself. The most important creations from his mind have yet to be discovered and his intentions of bringing the world closer to real knowledge makes him a great choice for a portrait.

This is a one of a kind hand painted original tile is carefully  layered with various coats of engobe colors. That is, the colors are actually just powdered colors made from natural earth. After several layers of an 18th century enamel base is laid onto the Spanish tile it is set to dry. Then Richard Siegel sets to work an image on the prepared tile. Layering of colors, blending, and always conscience of the effects of the powdered color as it will melt into the enamel. Using his own technique he carefully uses various tools to blend and to bring the base white up to the surface, even to the point of scratching all the color off to allow the base white enamel to show.

Each color and layer means the piece must rest for hours and days to dry to that any color added will not just spread across other colors that might still be wet. The time to create, bake in the ovens, and bring it to a real item takes weeks. The works of Richard Siegel are never just job lots, they are original art and one of a kind.
